Hello! My name is Kirsten Wray. I am thrilled to be starting my fourth year as the band director for GRACE Christian School. I grew up in the Raleigh area, attending Apex schools. I went on to receive my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from East Carolina University. While attending ECU, I held the Principal Flute position of the Wind Ensemble and was Co-Principal of the orchestra. Today, I play flute with my church praise band, weddings, and teach private flute and piano. My husband, Brian, and I have been married for almost ten years and we have a four year old daugher, Isabella.
God has truly blessed the band program at GRACE! We started off with two tiny groups, no school owned instruments, and barely enough music to fill ten minutes. Going into the second year we increased to three groups, doubling the size of the Middle School/High School band. We were also able to purchase a room full of instruments, stands, and enough music to keep us busy for a long time. A nearly empty room turned into a band room nearly overnight. Talk about loaves and fishes! God provided more than I even expected in one year. We were also able to start up a pep band two years ago that play at several basketball games per season. It is so much fun!
I have prayed several prayers over the last three years:
1. All these prayers have I am thrilled to begin year three. The Middle School/High School has close to thirty members, nearly doubling in size again this year! We are finally reaching numbers that will provide the students with a true band experience. I am so excited to hear what they can do. The pep band is going to be even better this year and will be playing at more games than last year. We may even be able to start up a jazz band!
I look forward to seeing all my students again and welcoming the new members. Music is truly a gift of God and I feel blessed to be able to share and teach music to the students of GRACE.
