Student Life

Music

General Music: All students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade have a weekly General Music class as part of their curriculum.  These classes include singing, movement, listening, playing with Orff instruments, and activities that include music history and elements of music.

Choral Music:  Students have the opportunity to become a part of Elementary Chorus starting in 3rd grade.  This chorus includes interested students in grades 3 through 5, and provides a number of performance opportunities both on and off campus during the school year.  A variety of musical styles are studied, along with basic choral and vocal techniques.  We offer a variety of vocal and choral ensembles in grades 6 through 12 including 6th grade vocal ensemble, 7th/8th grade chorus, high school mixed vocal ensemble, and high school ladies ensemble.  These ensembles provide numerous performances throughout the school year, and sang for Governor Bev Perdue at the state capital building in December 2009.  Students continue studies in vocal techniques and choral literature.  Several of our Choral ensembles consistantly receive ratings of Superior at NCMEA and ACSI music festivals.
