Event Planning (Middle and High School)

This class is designed for students who have a strong desire to serve the school by helping with social events. GRACE currently offers one middle school elective twice a week, and one high school elective twice a week. There are two main objectives for this course: 1) to learn how to plan events in an organized fashion, and 2) to learn various skills related to event planning. Each month brings a new project. This class supports all of the school events including Grandparents’ Day, student council elections, Prom, Homecoming, pep rallies, book fairs, faculty dinners, and sports banquets. Depending on the event, students may have the opportunity to design decorations, set up advertising, select themes, balance budgets, or even go on a field trip to shop for party supplies. The event planning class also welcomes visitors to the classroom. Anyone who has an area of expertise to share with the class is welcomed: florists, bakers, photographers, catering coordinators, wedding planners, just to name a few. Field trips include visiting a hotel to interact with a full-time event planner, and going to the GRACE kitchen to make baked goods for a specific event or for the GRACE care ministry.
