Staff Spotlight: Christi Colyer

Christi Colyer graduated from Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania where she received her bachelor’s in education (K-6) with a minor in psychology. She joined the GRACE family as a 4th grade teacher in October, 2016, but came to us with eight years of  teaching experience at Immanuel Christian School in northern Virginia. Christi had the opportunity to go to India for three weeks in August 2011 with the staff from her former school. She fondly remembers loving the children at a boarding school there and conducting a training for teachers.  It was an amazing experience!

As an elementary student, she fondly remembers her 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Kuehlke, giving her teacher and student editions of textbooks so that Christi could “play school” at home. She remembers being so excited and loved teaching her dolls and stuffed animals at home! She neither confirmed nor denied that her cats, Turbo and Rex, are her pretend students when she wants to practice a lesson!

Ephesians 3:20-21 is Christi’s favorite Bible verse because God deserves ALL of the glory and is able to do SO much more than we can comprehend.  This verse helps boost her faith to believe for miracles in her life and expect “immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine” from our Loving Heavenly Father.

Christi met her husband, Jon, through mutual friends from McLean Bible Church. Both enjoy bike riding, white water rafting, hiking and rock climbing. Jon actually proposed to Christi with a ring hanging from a GoPro camera at the top of a rock wall! The Colyers were married in the summer of 2013 in Christi’s home state of New Jersey where they enjoy visiting family on visits north. As a child, Christi wanted to be a detective/sleuth. She loved watching Matlock, Murder She Wrote, Diagnosis Murder, and reading Nancy Drew and Babysitter’s Club Mysteries.  As a teacher, this detective/sleuth theme has always set the tone in her classroom as she hopes to inspire her students to investigate, search for Truth, make discoveries, and develop discernment. Christian education has played a crucial role in Christi’s life, and she loves being part of the Christian community at GRACE. In this dark world, GRACE is a place of Truth and Light, and she is happy to be a part of our sweet community.
