#WhatsUpAtGRACE July 26, 2019

Welcome back! We hope that our GRACE family has had a wonderful summer break and that you are able to enjoy these final weeks before returning to school.

There are several events that happen right after we return to school, so we wanted to let you know what those were. The July 25, 2019 “Back-to-School” Edition of #WhatsUpAtGRACE has dates, details and links for the following activities/events:

  • Orientation for all new upper campus studentson August 12th
  • All-School Meet & Greet on August 12th
  • Auditions for the Fall Play on August 15th & 16th
  • All-School Back to School Bash on August 16th
  • First day of hot lunch on August 22nd

In addition, it is also the time of year when you will need to fill out a few forms. We are actively looking at ways to move away from paper and make this process completely electronic in the future, but for this year, we ask for your grace and patience as you print, fill out, and turn in the required. forms. All forms are linked in the newsletter and also available on the Handbook & Forms page in the School Life section of the GRACE website.

We also encourage you to keep up to date with all future events by consulting the GRACE Calendar.

Auditions: The Secret Garden

Auditions for The Secret Garden, by Sylvia Ashby, adapted from Frances Hodgson Burnett classic will be held on August 15th and 16th from 3:30-5:00pm in the Upper Campus Chapel. Students must attend both days of auditions. All students auditioning must prepare a one minute dramatic monologue and will be asked to complete a cold reading from the script.

Please do not audition if you are unable to commit to regular attendance at rehearsals, unable to attend the week of tech and dress rehearsals in their entirety, and/or unable to attend both performance dates.

  • Rehearsals will begin on August 22nd and run most days after school  from 3:30- 5:15pm until the end of the performances.
  • Tech and Dress Rehearsals will be every day from October 17th-23rd and are mandatory.
  • Performance dates are Thursday, October 24th and Saturday, October 26th.

Overview of The Secret Garden from the Samuel French Inc. website
Mary Lennox, a sullen and spoiled young orphan, is sent to live with her brooding uncle at gloomy Misselthwaite Manor. Discovering a hidden, neglected garden, Mary plants the seeds of new life for all those drawn into her secret refuge. A wonderful story of transformation, from the author of the immensely popular Anne of Green Gables.

2019-2020 Athletic Update

We are excited to begin another GRACE EAGLES Athletic season for the 2019-2020 school year! We continue to have over 70% of our students in middle and high school participating on GRACE Athletic teams and we look forward to another year of striving for excellence in all endeavors. For specific information on the fall sports season, please read 2019 Fall Sport Information.

This year, we are working to provide more practice space at our current GRACE Athletic Field location for various of our outdoor athletic teams. With the help of annual fund dollars as well as Eagles Club dollars, we have been able to partner with Evans Contracting to provide over an acre of new practice field space with irrigation and fresh sod! We are hopeful to make this space available to our teams during the early portion of the fall season. There will more than likely be construction going on during the month of August for this project.  This will allow more space for our outdoor athletic teams to practice as well as more teams being able to finish practices at an earlier time!

Our Eagles Club Memberships are a huge way to promote and enhance the athletic programs here at GRACE. An Eagles Club Membership allows you to enjoy FREE ADMISSION for the whole year at our JV and Varsity Athletic events with some exclusions for NCISAA playoffs and special events. Please consider purchasing an Eagles Club Membership today for a special $125.00 price through Aug. 26th!

As always, please use our athletics website for team schedules, dismissal times, results, as well as other important information such as physical forms and athletic paperwork. Please be sure to SIGN UP as a FAN to receive alerts such as game or practice cancellations, score updates, or other game changes via text or email.

Our GRACE Coaching staff is ready for the new athletic season! We have added some new faces and we are still praying for the filling of some open positions.  Here are a few coaches who are new or have switched to new roles:

  • Steve MacDermut – Head Coach MS Girls Tennis
  • Ashley Brantley – Head Coach Varsity Fall Cheerleading (previous Asst. Var. Cheer)
  • Chad Poprocki – Head Coach MS Boys Soccer (previous MS Girls Soccer HC)
  • Katie Horton  – Head Coach MS Cross Country
  • Beth Chapman – Assistant Coach MS Cross Country

There are a few more coaching positions we are still praying to fill:  Varsity Cheer (winter), MS Girls Soccer (spring). If you know of any candidates, please email their contact information or ask them to contact Athletic Director Devin Terris at

We pray we continue to display servant leadership and provide an atmosphere where our student athletes, coaches, parents, and volunteers reflect humility, sportsmanship, and integrity through the avenue of interscholastic competition for the glory of God!

Please make sure to come out and support your GRACE Eagles and show off some of your #EaglePride at our home events! GO EAGLES!
