College Connections Newsletter

The mission of the GRACE college counseling department is to support our students and their families in preparing for a future in which each student’s God-given talents will shine.

As it relates to the college selection and application process, it is our goal to help students identify the type of environment in which they can be excellent and then walk with them through the process of getting there.

As part of this endeavor, the College Counseling department publishes a monthly College Connections Newsletter.

This week, GRACE would like all of our families to take a moment to celebrate the life of Mrs. Marilyn Martin who passed away on Friday, September 20th. Mrs. Martin was a kind, joy-filled follower of Christ. Alongside her husband, David, she was a mainstay at GRACE events for years. She played an integral role in the Martin family decision to donate the land for what is now the GRACE lower campus. Last year, the Martins were honored as our first honorary alumni of the year. We are all recipients of the wonderful legacy Mrs. Martin has left behind. Please keep the entire Martin family in your prayers.

PTF Fundraiser at Chick-fil-A
September 26 | 5 – 8 p.m.
Eat chicken, give back! GRACE PTF invites our families to dine at Chick-fil-A Crossroads Plaza on September 26th between 5 – 8 p.m. and 10% of your purchase will be donated to GRACE. No flyer required! Also, the Chick-fil-A cow and prize wheel will be on-site for a chance for more fun and prizes. We hope to see you there!

GRACE Annual Fund
October 17 – 25
The Annual Fund is the most important area of fundraising for GRACE and provides the resources to make improvements to our campus facilities, instructional technology, and professional development opportunities that otherwise would have to be delayed or eliminated. Mark your calendars and join us in praying expectantly to see how you can help GRACE be known for generosity during our Annual Fund drive.

This high-flying Eagle is ready for an adventure and hopes our GRACE community will enjoy taking him along on your family travels to share with the rest of us.

Heading somewhere fun and want to save a seat for Traveling Talon? Email with your travel dates and destination! We’ll arrange Traveling Talon’s passport and pack his bags. All we ask is that you snap some pictures of Traveling Talon with your family that we can share on our GRACE social media channels. (Oh, and you’ll have to bring Traveling Talon back to school after your trip so we can prepare him for his next adventure!)

Share your KNOWN story
Our theme for 2019-2020 school year is “Known” and comes from John 10:14, “I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own and my own know me.” Over the course of the year, we will share with our students the incredible concept of being known by, and developing a personal relationship with, Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We would love to hear your own “Known” stories throughout the year. Please send them to

Work of Art

This weekend, GRACE upper campus students had a blast “chalking” in downtown Raleigh’s Warehouse District as part of SPARKcon’s ArtSPARK. Ten teams of 40 students and 17 parent chaperones enjoyed the day together. Two of the squares were honored with Sparkcon sponsor recognition. Red Hat celebrated the cassette tapes square design by Lena Giuggio and created with her team, Heidi Rogers, Caroline Murray and Laura Wingerd. Design Box honored the square created by Kiara Azamar, Ava Mendez and Bri Gower. Congrats to all who participated. Way to represent GRACE!

Homecoming is right around the corner! If you are interested in helping make this year’s event a memorable one for all our students, TK-12th, please sign up to volunteer. Service Opportunities

Pop Tabs for the Ronald McDonald House: Tomorrow, September 18th, GRACE first graders will visit the Ronald McDonald House, which provides a place for families to call home so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little to no cost. Please send in any collected pop tabs for the children to donate. The funds generated from recycling the aluminum helps offset house expenses.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent Conferences are the afternoon of Thursday September 19th and all day on Friday September 20th.

Lower Campus (Grades TK-6th)

Parents with students on the lower campus should have already received communication directly from your students’ teachers on how and when to schedule a conference.

Upper Campus (Grades 7th-12th)

On the upper campus, please use the links below to schedule conferences with your students’ teachers. Please sign up for a conference slot with each teacher you want to meet with and note the room number where each meeting will be held. There will be chairs outside of each door for you to sit and wait for each teacher. Students are encouraged to come to the conferences with their parents.

Host Czech Students for One Week

GRACE is hosting a group of Czech students who will be visiting Raleigh from October 2-9.  We are in need of host homes for pairs of students to stay with to help with communication and language practice. They will enjoy getting to know our culture and being part of our Homecoming festivities, but they will also have their own schedule while they are here. They will come to school in the mornings and go home with you in the afternoons and have activities planned during each school day.  This is a great opportunity to expose your students to a different culture.

Contact Upper Campus principal Mandy Gill ( if you are interested and/or have questions.
