GRACE Christian School is hosting The College Funding Coach® on March 18th from 6:00- 8:00 pm in the Upper Campus Chapel. This seminar is for any family wanting to learn how to pay for college. The purpose of this workshop is to help parents understand college costs and plan for the best ways to pay for them. VOICES AROUND THE WORLD GALLERY
March 8 | 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Voices Around the World gallery was inspired by four different books read by groups of 9th-grade students during the third quarter. The lower campus student council will show the ACC tournament games, provide many different games for students, and have snacks for purchase with the purpose of raising money to support an international missions organization to be determined by the 2019-20 student council executive council with the guidance of its sponsors.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

Juniors and seniors who need community service hours: Volunteers are needed for The Red Rose Benefit on Saturday, February 29th at Edenton Street United Methodist Church. The Red Rose Benefit is a dinner and silent auction fundraiser for the Ruth Sheets Adult Care Center. The Ruth Sheets Center provides day care for frail, senior adults. ACSI Spelling Bee Winners!

GRACE was privileged to host six schools at the ACSI District Spelling Bee on Friday, February 7.

Congratulations to the GRACE students who placed in the grade-level bees: First Grade: 3rd Place, Cameron Pusey; Third Grade: 1st Place, Maddox Hickman, 2nd Place, Cecily Shibley; Sixth Grade: First Place, Nate Hickman, Third Place, Eli Stewart; Seventh Grade: Third Place, Connor Woodworth, Fourth Place, Collin Sanchez; Eighth Grade: Third Place, Anna Garrett.

Nate Hickman, Eli Stewart, Connor Woodworth, Collin Sanchez, and Anna Garrett went on to compete in the Spell-Off event among the top four participants who placed in grades 5-8.  In the Spell-Off event, Anna Garrett finished in First Place and Collin Sanchez in Second Place. Anna and Collin and the other top five will go on to compete in the ACSI Regional Spelling Bee in Atlanta in March. This was quite an accomplishment for these students and we are so proud of them!

GRACE art students win big at the 2020 Raleigh GFWC Arts Festival

Congratulations GRACE art students! We had 46 GRACE artworks, photographs, and graphic designs from middle school and high school students place in the 2020 Raleigh GFWC Arts Festival. The Arts Festival is billed as the largest Arts recognition program for young people in North Carolina and is in its 50th year.

All 1st and 2nd place winning entries of each category will advance to the District VI Arts Festival that will be held on Saturday, February 15th, as a private juried event at First Baptist Church in downtown Raleigh.  District first place winners will advance to the GFWC-NC State Arts Festival which will be held March 14th in Mebane, NC.

NHS TUTORING AVAILABLE

Parents: Are you looking for some additional academic support for your child? Our National Honor Society students provide FREE one-on-one tutoring for all grade levels and subjects at GRACE. These students are juniors and seniors at the upper campus who have consistently demonstrated academic excellence. Requests for NHS tutors can be submitted using this form. After we receive your request, one of our NHS representatives will contact you via email to make specific arrangements. If you have any questions about our Academic Mentoring Program, please contact Marcia Wingerd, the Media Specialist for the upper campus (mwingerd@gracechristian.net.) 

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Hope Connection is a local ministry, founded by a member of our GRACE community, that helps meet the needs of survivors of abuse and addiction. There are many ways in which high school students can support this ministry including staffing merchandise booths at Duke football and basketball games and working in the Deja-vu Thrift Store on Buck Jones Road. DRIVER EDUCATION CLASS

 GRACE will once again offer a Driver Education Class this summer – June 1-5, 8 am-2:30 pm. The cost of the class is $65.00. The registration form is available on the GRACE website or at the front reception desk. PLEASE NOTE – NO PAYMENT IS REQUIRED AT THIS TIME. We will notify you when the payment is due. To secure space in the class, please complete the registration form and turn it in at the front desk. Requirements – you must be 14 ½ years old by the first day of class and enrolled for the 2020-2021 school year at GRACE. Class size is limited to the first 40 students. If you have any questions, please contact Willa Bea Coates at wcoates@gracechristian.net.

PLEASE REMEMBER…

With numerous viruses going around, we want to remind our parents to please keep your students at home if they show signs of illness or have been diagnosed with the flu. Your child must be fever-free (without medication) for 24 hours before coming back to school. Students: remember that washing hands, sneezing or coughing using a tissue, and not sharing food or drinks can really help to keep the germs at bay. Thank for your diligence in keeping our students and staff healthy.

Men of GRACE: Join us for Donuts for Dads! Our guest speaker will be Larry Falivena, fellow GRACE dad and advocate for people suffering from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). After his own ALS diagnosis in 2017, Larry knew that he wanted to raise awareness of this disease and help raise funds for ALS research. He made national headlines by taking his family around the country this past summer to meet with other people who have been affected by ALS and tell their stories, all while visiting every Major League Baseball park – an “Iron Horse Tour.” Come join the Men of GRACE as Larry talks about his trip, his diagnosis, and what God is doing in his life. The event will be in the Student Center of the Upper Campus.
