Amazing GRACE | September 22, 2020

Please complete this form if you wish for your child/children to participate in off-site learning from October 6 through October 30. Please register by 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30.

Per Mr. Bradley's email last week, we have modified our schedule slightly for Fall 2020. Attached to this email you'll find the updated school calendar, which you can print and display in a convenient location.

If you have a Lower Campus student and would like to request All-Day "Aftercare" for October 5th - one of our updated "days off" - please use this link to register.

Students in grades 2-9 will participate in ERB's CTP5 standardized assessment next week, September 28- October 1. October 2 has been designated as a makeup testing day for any students who are absent earlier in the week. In contrast to spring testing, fall testing assesses students on benchmark content from their previous grade in the spring and provides relevant data for feedback and instructional focus for the duration of the school year. According to ERB, "the CTP helps compare content specific, curriculum-based performance to the more conceptual knowledge base found in reasoning tests." The assessment data reports will provide relevant and timely feedback for parents and teachers to determine individual student mastery of concepts and skills and areas for growth and improvement and instructional focus this year.

Students in grades 2-6 will complete traditional paper/pencil tests and need to bring two sharpened Number 2 pencils with them to school for testing. Students in grades 7-9 will complete online testing and need to remember to bring their charged MacBook to school.
How can parents help? Please ensure your students get a good night's sleep before testing and arrive at school well-nourished, encouraged and prepared to do their best! There will be no tests in other courses/content areas during the week of ERB testing. We hope to have your student's assessment reports in time for parent conferences in October.

Beth Marks with Buy & Sell with Beth has been selling Real Estate in the Triangle since 2002 and joined us as a Business Partner when her son Matthew was in 1st Grade. As a Business Sponsor, one of the fun things she has enjoyed doing is giving out Foam Fingers and Rally Towels at our annual Homecoming Football Games. She takes a different approach to real estate, one that is built on personal touches, building relationships and a win-win deal for positive results. She utilizes the latest technologies, market research and business strategies to exceed your expectations. More importantly, listens and that means she finds solutions that are tailored to your real estate needs. If you or someone you know is thinking about making a move around the Triangle or actually anywhere in the world she is here to help.
Find her on Facebook too!

If you are interested in becoming a business partner with GRACE, please refer to the Business Partner Information Sheet to see what is included at each level. For more information, contact Eric Bradley at ebradley@gracechristian.net. To sign up as a business partner, complete the Business Partner Commitment Form.

Our Upper Campus parents may not be able to walk through the hallways to see the impressive artwork our students have been working on, but no worries! Our Art Appreciation students created very realistic drawings of folded notebook paper. It's called, "Trompe l'Oeil" -"art to trick the eye." The results were impressive! You can see their work here

And those students aren't our only GRACE artists at work! Check out the Abstract Art our Middle School students put together to awaken their creativity at the beginning of the year.

COVID Protocols: Remember to regularly check our "Together Again" packet for information related to our operating procedures. Campus-specific information for Lower Campus can be found here and Upper Campus can be found here.

Helpful Hint from Nurse Natalie: Please make sure to pack an extra mask each day in your student's bookbag. We are finding that sometimes masks break or are misplaced throughout the day so having an extra on-hand is helpful.

NCISAA has released an update to the spectator policy for fall athletics.1) No spectators at any events before October 1.

2) As of October 1, 2 legal guardians per senior student-athlete will be allowed to attend a home event, including indoor events. The guardians will be required to pass a temperature check and social distance while at the event. The legal guardians are not allowed to allow another family member, such as a sibling, attend the game in their place. 3) The NCISAA will update the policy after the next announcement from the Governor regarding public gatherings. Per the NCISAA, while schools are allowed to have athletic events as part of the educational programming of a school, the exemption for a public gathering does not apply to the spectators in attendance. 4) No visiting fans are allowed to attend games. If you have any questions, please contact our Athletic Director Devin Terris at dterris@gracechristian.net.

Meet Mrs. Kayla Searson, 1st-grade Teacher

Mrs. Searson
"My husband and I just moved to the Raleigh area from Virginia. He is excited to be starting seminary and I am blessed to be teaching here at GRACE. We are looking forward to seeing all that God has in store here and to getting to know each of you better. My favorite Scripture verse is Colossians 3:23 - "Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men." I have been so blessed already by the people of GRACE and their genuine care for people and love for the Lord. I am so excited to help students grow in their love for Jesus. First grade is such an important time of growth, both spiritually and academically, and I am excited to be a part of both."
