The instrumental music program at GRACE provides students in grades 4-12 the opportunity to participate in band. In addition to band, high school students can participate in a strings elective class.
Students can start band in fourth grade and continue in band though twelfth grade. The performing groups we have are as follows:
- 4th Grade Band
- 5th Grade Band
- 6th Grade Band
- 7th/8th Grade Band
- High School Band
- Pep Band for basketball season
- Jazz Band
The 4th grade band performs twice a year, once at Christmas and again in the spring. The 5th and 6th grade bands have three performances a year. The first one is Grandparents’ Day in the fall, the Christmas program, and a concert in the spring.
The 7th/8th and high school groups put on a minimum of four concerts per year. Other performance opportunities include Grandparents’ Day, trips to two assisted livings during the Christmas season, the ACSI Fine Arts Festival in March, and the Barnes and Noble Book Fair in April.
In 2013-2014 GRACE introduced its first strings elective class. A small dedicated group of students brought their instruments, their talent, and their enthusiasm to launch this new class. The 2014-2015 school year will see a continuation of this program with the hopes of growing the ensemble and participating in more performance opportunities.
Students should be able to play a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or double base) and want to play together in an ensemble. Music will be arranged for differing abilities within the group. This ensemble will perform at GRACE’s Grandparents Day, Winter concert, Fine Arts Chapel, and Spring concert.
