General & Choral Music

General Music

All students in grade TK-5th Grade have a weekly General Music class as part of their curriculum. These classes include singing, movement, listening, playing with Orff instruments, and activities that include music history and elements of music.

Elementary Chorus

Students have the opportunity to become a part of Elementary Chorus starting in 3rd grade. This chorus includes interested students in Grades 3-5, and provides a number of performance opportunities both on and off campus during the school year. A variety of musical styles are studied, along with basic choral and vocal techniques.

Vocal Ensemble

We offer a variety of vocal and choral ensembles in Grades 6-12 including 6th grade vocal ensemble, 7th/8th Grade chorus, and vocal ensemble in Grades 9-12. The vocal ensemble performs annually at the State Capitol Building and the Executive Mansion during Christmas. Students continue studies in vocal techniques and choral literature. Several of our Choral ensembles consistently receive ratings of Superior at NCMEA and ACSI music festivals.  High school vocal ensemble students take a spring trip to venues such as the Kings Dominion or Carowinds music festival.

The vocal ensemble elective classes rehearse and perform a variety of choral music at venues both on and off campus throughout the school year. Vocal development and techniques, music reading, and ear training are important components of the class. The ability to match pitch and sing parts with others is required.
